Christopher J. Couch, Senior Advisory Member

As the Founding Member, Chris now serves as Senior Advisory Member, providing strategic and executive counsel to the Members and Executive Team of the Firm.  For over 15 years, Chris served as the Managing Member of the multi-state legal collection practice. During his tenure, the Firm expanded its legal operations and practice into its current footprint of 9 states.

Chris is a Past Board Member and Parliamentarian of National Creditors Bar Association. He also served as the Chairman of its Leadership Committee, Member of the Client Standards Task Force, and Co-Chair of the Communications & Public Relations Committee.

In May 2016, Mr. Couch was selected for CityBusiness Magazine’s 2016 Leadership in Law class. As a third time honoree, Chris was inducted into the Leadership in Law Hall of Fame.  He was recognized as one of New Orleans’ Leaders In Law by New Orleans CityBusiness in 2009, 2010 and 2016.

He is a 2012 graduate of New Orleans Regional Leadership Institute (NORLI) 2012 Leadership Program. In 2013, Mr. Couch was recognized by CityBusiness as one of the top 50 financial professionals whose fiscal work has set the pace for their company and received the Money Maker Award.

He has lectured nationally on a variety of topics, such as Compliance, Disaster Planning & Recovery, and Law Office Management. Mr. Couch served as the Co-Chairman of the Future Leadership Committee for the National Association of Retail Collection Attorneys (“NARCA”). From October 2005 through January 2008, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of NARCA.  From January 2008- October 2009, he served as Parliamentarian to the President of NARCA.

Mr. Couch was admitted to the United States Supreme Court in 2010. He is also a member of the Louisiana Bar Association and is licensed to practice before all Courts of Louisiana.  Mr. Couch is a 2000 graduate of the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University.  He is a 1997 graduate of the University of New Orleans.  He also received a Certificate for attending the Summer Scholar Program at George Washington University School of Political Management.

Mr. Couch has published a variety of articles related to the compliance, audit, lending and legal collections, law office management and disaster planning and recovery. He is also a co-author of the Louisiana Law of Pawn, 3d. Edition, 1999.

Benjamin G. Lambert, Managing Member

Benjamin G. Lambert is licensed to practice in Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Alabama. Mr. Lambert is currently the Firm’s Managing Member of the Firm’s multi-state practice. Prior to becoming a Partner with the Firm in 2015, Mr. Lambert served as the Firm’s Director of Legal Operations and managing attorney for Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Alabama.  Mr. Lambert’s practice focuses upon consumer legal collection for the Firm’s local, regional and national clients. Mr. Lambert also handles defense matters on behalf of the Firm’s clients.

Mr. Lambert has served on various committees and participated in strategic planning for the National Creditor’s Bar Association. He has participated and spoken at several national conferences on a variety of topics including, audit, compliance, strategic planning, succession planning for law firms and law firm management.  Locally, Mr. Lambert speaks annually to high schoolers on debt management and the common pitfalls of young adults utilizing debt. 

Mr. Lambert graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN in 2007 with Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Economics. In 2010, he graduated from Loyola University of New Orleans College of Law, where he served as President of the Trial Advocacy Program. Prior to graduating from law school, Mr. Lambert was an intern for the Honorable Eldon E. Fallon in the Eastern District of Louisiana and the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office. In 2017, Mr. Lambert became a member of the Firm.

Sarena Y. Gaylor, Member

Sarena Y. Gaylor is licensed to practice in Louisiana and Texas. Her practice focuses upon consumer legal collections and creditor’s defense. Prior to becoming a member of Couch Lambert, Mrs. Gaylor served as the Partner of Legal Operations. Mrs. Gaylor is a member of the National Creditor’s Bar Association (NCBA) and New Orleans Bar Association (NOBA). She currently sits on the Board of Directors for NCBA and is the co-chair of the education pillar and executive experience committee. Additionally, Mrs. Gaylor was appointed by the Louisiana Supreme Court as an assistant bar examiner.

Mrs. Gaylor graduated from Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University with a Juris Doctor and Diploma in Comparative Law in 2013. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy of Law, Morality & Society and Physical Anthropology from Tulane University in 2009. Prior to graduating from law school, Mrs. Gaylor clerked at Couch Lambert (formerly Couch, Conville & Blitt), Southeast Louisiana Legal Services’ Family Law Division, and interned for Judge Guy Holdridge of the 23rd Judicial District Court. Mrs. Gaylor joined the Firm in September 2013.

Bradley J Chauvin, Partner

Bradley J Chauvin is the Lead collection counsel and Senior Louisiana Litigator with the firm. He has been with the firm and its predecessors for over 30 years. He has gained a reputation as an aggressive advocate for his clients, but fair opponent. He has had extensive experience in prosecuting and defending creditors’ claims. His practice includes commercial and consumer legal collections for many of the Firm’s local and national clients.

Mr. Chauvin acts for the rights of his clients in the legislature as well. He co-authored and actively supported passage of the former Louisiana Collection Agency Regulation Act, the Louisiana Pawnshop Act, and has helped draft and pass revisions to various other Louisiana business and collection related statutes.

Mr. Chauvin has guest lectured at Loyola University School of Law, for Dun & Bradstreet, for the National Association of Credit Managers, and throughout the state on business and collection law issues. He co-authored the 1990, 1993, and 1999 Louisiana Law of Pawn.

Mr. Chauvin is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and the Commercial Law League of America. He is licensed before all of the courts of Louisiana, the United States District Court for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Louisiana, and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Chauvin was licensed in the area of property and casualty with the Louisiana Insurance Commission for 10 years and has held a solicitor’s license with the Louisiana Real Estate Commission for 40 years.

Mr. Chauvin is a 1990 graduate of Loyola University School of Law. During law school, he clerked for the United States Army Corps of Engineers in New Orleans and subsequently for Babovich & Spedale, a predecessor firm. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Loyola University of the South.

Shawn R. Redman

Shawn Redman is a Senior Associate litigator in Texas with extensive experience in consumer and commercial litigation. He represents clients in Texas state and appellate courts, as well as in the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas.

He earned a B.S. from Louisiana State University (1997) and a J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law (2001), where he also studied comparative law at the University of Vienna, Austria.

Mr. Redman is licensed to practice in Texas and Louisiana.

Chad Benoit

Chad Benoit is an Senior Litigation Attorney with the Firm. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Mississippi, and received his law degree from The University of Mississippi School of Law. While in law school, Chad interned with the Mississippi Attorney General’s office as well as the U.S. Attorney’s office. Chad joined the firm in 2018, bringing with him six years of experience both as a litigation attorney and as corporate counsel. He is currently licensed in Mississippi, Arkansas, and Tennessee.

Paul Brennan

Paul Brennan is an Associate Louisiana Litigator. He graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University, and he received his law degree from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center. While in law school, Paul externed with the Honorable Judge Guy Holdridge at the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal. Paul joined the firm in 2018, bringing with him experience as an Assistant District Attorney for Orleans Parish. He is currently licensed in Louisiana.

Charles F. Dismukes

Charles Dismukes is an Associate Litigator in the Metairie office. His practice focuses upon consumer legal collections and creditor’s defense. Charles graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Orleans and received his law degree from Mississippi College School of Law. He is currently licensed in Louisiana and Texas.

Jordan Carlisle

Jordan Carlisle is an Associate Litigator in the Birmingham, Alabama office. She is licensed to practice in the State Courts of Alabama as well as the United States District Courts for the Middle District of Alabama. Ms. Carlisle grew up in North Alabama, but now calls Birmingham home.

Ms. Carlisle obtained her J.D. from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University where she was a member of the National Negotiation team, the James Edwin Horton Inn of Court, an Executive Member of the Henry Upson Simms Moot Court Board, and an Associate Justice of the Gordon T. Saad Moot Court Competition. Ms. Carlisle received her B.A. in Political Science with a minor in English from Jacksonville State University. 

Prior to joining the firm in January 2019, Ms. Carlisle practiced at a plaintiff’s firm in Birmingham, AL. Her litigation experience includes representing hundreds of clients in consumer arbitration.

Britney A. Bernard

Britney is an Associate Louisiana Litigator in the Metairie office. Her practice focuses upon consumer legal collections and creditor’s defense. Britney graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Clemson University in South Carolina and received her law degree from Southern University Law Center. Prior to joining the Firm, Britney was a judicial intern in Middle District of Louisiana. She is currently licensed in Louisiana.

Marlei English Thames

Marlei English Thames is an Associate Litigator in the Dallas, Texas office. Her practice focuses on consumer legal collections and creditor’s defense. Marlei graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a minor in Business Administration from Baylor University in 2017. She received her law degree from Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law in 2021. While in law school, Marlei co-authored a legal guide to garnishments that was published by the Texas Young Lawyers Association, as well as, served as Associate Managing Editor for The International Lawyer Journal. Additionally, she worked as a law clerk for the general counsel of an accounts receivable management company in Dallas. She is currently licensed in Texas.

M. Clark Hays

M. Clark Hays is an Associate Attorney licensed to practice in Arkansas and Texas. He graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Physics from Tulsa University and received his law degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law – Fayetteville. He has nearly eight years of experience in the collection practice field, from both the consumer and collection side.

Brock Rowatt

Mr. Rowatt is an Associate in the Kansas office. He graduated from William Jewell College in 1991 with a degree in English; and he obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Law in 1994. Mr. Rowatt joined Couch Lambert LLC after over 20 years of practice with collection law firms in Kansas and Missouri. He is licensed to practice law in Missouri and Kansas and in the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri and the United States District Court for the District of Kansas. While in law school Mr. Rowatt served on the UMKC Law Review and authored a published article regarding The Public Policy Exception to Employment At Will, 62 UMKC L. Rev. 325, Winter, 1993. Areas of practice include Consumer and Commercial Collection law.

Jeff Hacker

Highly skilled attorney with experience in Debtor Creditor matters, primarily representing creditors, including major financial institutions. Strong Compliance background in areas involving banking and consumer protection legislation, both on National and State/Levels. Licensed in Missouri and Texas, as well as all four Federal District Courts in Texas, Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and U.S. Supreme Court. Martindale-Hubbell AV rated.

Derek Devine

Derek Devine graduated from Baylor University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a minor in History.

Derek received a law degree in 2021 from St. Mary’s University School of Law.

While in law school, he served as a staff writer for the Law Journal.

Karen Materna

Karen is an Associate Alabama Litigator. Her primary focus is in consumer legal collections and creditor’s rights. Karen has a vast legal background in the industry. She has represented numerous banks, financial institutions, landlords, medical facilities, and debt buyers in Alabama. She also has years of experience practicing in the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Alabama. Outside of consumer legal collections and representing creditors in federal court, Karen has been a city prosecutor, criminal defense attorney, practiced in probate court, juvenile court, small claims, district civil, circuit civil and in domestic relations. Karen graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Huntingdon College and received her law degree from Faulkner University, Jones School of Law.

Philip Mayer

Philip Mayer is an Associate Louisiana Litigator in the Metairie office. His practice focuses on consumer legal collections and creditor’s defense, but he also has experience with commercial collections, complex civil litigation involving subrogation claims, civil defense, and executory processes.

Philip graduated from Loyola University New Orleans in 2016 with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, majoring in Economics, and graduated from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2019 with a certificate in Environmental Law. He is currently licensed in Louisiana.
